Judge Theresa Cook is the wife of Lionel Cook, and the mother of Peter and Taranee Cook.

Lionel Cook

Lionel and Theresa Cook

Appearance[]

In the comics and TV series Theresa's hair is blue. She has brown eyes and is tall and slim. Differently from the rest of the Cooks, she appears to be of Asian descent.

Personality[]

Judge Theresa Cook (sometimes "Terry" by Lionel, her husband)[1] is the mother of Peter and Taranee Cook and wife of Lionel Cook.

As a parent, Theresa tends to be rather strict in raising her children, especially Taranee. Where Peter will accept her declarations without contest, Taranee shares Theresa's pride and is sometimes prone to rebellion. This leads the two to clash, especially when Taranee feels her mother is not listening to her voice.[2] While she does come across as strict and overprotective, Theresa truly does love her family and only wants the best for them.

Theresa is not always serious, able to take a joke directed at her or make one herself.[3] She and Peter usually trade quips using legal analogies based around her job as a judge.[1] Though she can be very stubborn, Lionel can usually convince her to change her mind and give second chances.[4]

Theresa had troubles getting along with Lionel’s sister Louisiana who constantly criticized her.[5]

Plot[]

Comics[]

Theresa fell in love with and married Lionel Cook, hinting she was the one who proposed to him.[6] Together, they had their first child, Peter Lancelot. At a later time, they decided to adopt a little girl, Taranee. Lionel wanted to tell Taranee of her adoption when she could understand, but Theresa preferred not to, not wanting the girl to “miss” the early moments of her life. For this reason, she went to a friend who had an infant daughter, Audrey, and was given a copy of the girl's baby pictures which she pretended were Taranee.[7] Peter was also never told about his sister being adopted as he was too young to know the difference. Following the adoption, Theresa researched Taranee’s original parents so she could offer information about them to Taranee once they told her the truth.

Theresa tended to be strict with raising Taranee, leading the girl to think her mother didn’t like her as much as Peter. Despite this, Theresa and Lionel would shower the girl with love and affection.[8]

Theresa eventually got a job as a judge in Heatherfield and the Cooks left Sesamo. Unfortunately, the night of their leaving was the night of Taranee's last dance test, which really broke her heart.[9]

Arc 1: The Twelve Portals[]

Shortly before Halloween, the family was settled into Heatherfield. Peter was enrolled into the Heatherfield Art Institute while Taranee attended Sheffield Institute. By her second day of school, Tarnee had made good friends with Will Vandom, Irma Lair, Cornelia Hale, and Hay Lin (and became a Guardian of Kandrakar).[10] Over time, Theresa also made friends with each Guardian’s mother: Susan Vandom, Anna Lair, Elizabeth Hale, and Joan Lin.

At some point during her time in Heatherfield, Theresa handled the case Daniel Ashcroft, who was caught shooting arrows into parking meters. She sentenced him to community service in another town.[11]

Taranee went out with her friends but unknown to her family, she was captured and held prisoner in Meridian. An Astral Drop was summoned to take her place and no one knew it wasn’t her. The following day, Theresa, Lionel, and Peter picked up “Taranee” from school. That evening, the astral drop was absorbed into the original Taranee (who W.I.T.C.H. had rescued), letting their memories merge. The true Taranee reentered the house and her family never knew she was missing.[12]

Judge Cook was summoned to the courthouse late at night for a case of breaking and entering in the Heatherfield Museum, plus damaged property. She sat before the parents of the guilty boys, refusing to hear excuses about peer pressures. She warned the parents that the boys’ little “prank” could have been a serious offense except that the artifacts they ruined were imitations. As she had no desire to ruin their lives over this, the museum had dropped the charges though Judge Cook wouldn’t be letting them off without a punishment. She sentenced the boys to three months of community service within the museum. Unknown to her, one of the boys, Nigel Ashcroft, became close to Taranee and they developed a mutual crush on each other.[13]

Taranee and Nigel were scheduled for their first date though Theresa was not pleased with it, suspecting the boy was a delinquent. She began to regret letting Taranee go out, but Peter assured her Nigel was no longer a part of Uriah Dunn’s gang and was a good person.[14]

Theresa seemed to have warmed up to Nigel some, answering the phone when he called and taking it to Taranee. Unfortunately, she refused to talk to him (due to a misunderstanding) so Theresa tried to lie that she was not home. Nigel understood Taranee was avoiding him and asked the judge to tell her he was “not the one who stole the watch”. This confused Theresa but Nigel hung up the phone without explaining. Luckily, the situation was resolved by the end of the day and Taranee and Nigel were alright again.[15]

Arc 2: Nerissa's Revenge[]

For unknown reasons, Theresa began to think Nigel was no longer a good acquaintance for Taranee and forbid the two of them from going out again. Taranee defended that Nigel was a good person and had changed since the museum break-in, calling Theresa bias. The judge admit that while she was impartial at her job, she could voice her opinions in her own home. So while Nigel might seem innocent and cute, Theresa did not trust him and declared Taranee had better obey her orders. Taranee ran away to her room and Peter quipped about this “sentence without appeal”, to which Theresa said the girl needed common sense.[2]

Unknown to the family, they were being watched by an old enemy of the Guardians, Frost the Hunter, who even snuck into their home at one point. He ultimately kidnapped Peter, though Taranee and the Guardians got him back safely.[2]

Taranee went for a week vacation with her friends and the Lair family at McCormorgan beach.[16] Once the week was over, the Cook family came to pick her up. Theresa had a friendly conversation with Hay Lin, who talked about her own summer plans. The Cooks left to spend the rest of their vacation in Sesamo, planning to go mountain climbing. During their stay, a police officer called to report Taranee at their station, claiming to have caught her trying to ride a train alone (to help W.I.T.C.H. in Riddlescott). Theresa was confused as she had “Taranee” (an astral drop) right beside of her and dismissed the call as a prank.[17] The rest of their trip to the mountain was uneventful and the family returned to Heatherfield by the start of the new school year.

Mrs. Rudolph called the Cook home looking for Taranee and Theresa picked up. As she handed it over to her daughter, she complained about people who called so late in the evening. Taranee quipped that if all people had a mother like Theresa, there would be less chaos in the world. The judge found that funny and asked Lionel when Taranee developed such a sense of humor. He joked she might have developed this when the two of them spent less time together.[3]

Lionel had been on Taranee’s side about Nigel and after a long talk with Theresa, convinced her to give the boy a chance by meeting him properly.[4]

Theresa came to pick up Taranee as promised but was found by Will and Cornelia who wanted to distract her. She teased them, reminding them she was a judge and that while she might believe in their honesty, she also knew they were Taranee’s best friends which was enough reason to be suspicious of them. She then spied her daughter with Nigel and confronted them. However, she shocked all presence by being kind to Nigel. When Taranee questioned this, Theresa admitted Lionel had vouched for her and that she could invite Nigel to their house for a movie night. Theresa also made a joke about them hanging out with her and Lionel as “old folks” but Taranee was so overjoyed, she rushed back to Nigel and kissed him to Theresa surprise. Even so, Nigel joined the Cooks for their movie night, though Lionel was unable to be there at the time and did not meet Nigel. Nigel and Taranee were officially allowed to date after this.[4]

Theresa was soon given a new case: the custody battle of Will Vandom. Will’s estranged father, Thomas Vandom, was preparing to sue Susan for custody of Will while declaring Susan “unstable” as a guardian for the minor. The file included pictures of Susan dating Will’s teacher and other false evidence of her “neglecting” their daughter. Not sure how to proceed despite that Susan was her friend, Theresa kept the case file in her home office.[1]

Taranee called her house and informed Theresa that she wouldn’t be home for dinner as she was writing an article for her school paper about the Rock and Roll Cafe. Theresa wasn't pleased about the late notice and while agreeing she could go, declared she had to come right home afterwards.[1]

Peter returned home by declaring his mother “guilty” of making his favorite dinner and kissing her cheek “as punishment”. She was still annoyed by Taranee’s irresponsibility and asked him about the establishment she was going to, to which he gave it glowing reviews. This settled Theresa’s worries until Peter also mentioned the café was closed on Tuesday evenings, such as that very day to Theresa’s shock. She believed that Taranee had lied to her about where she was going. Truthfully, Taranee simply didn’t know about the café being closed and would have called her parents to explain but she - along with Nigel, Hay Lin, and Eric Lyndon – became caught up in a public disturbance caused by Uriah’s gang. The entire group was taken downtown despite that half of them hadn’t done anything wrong.[1]

Sometime later, the Cooks received a call from the police station saying Taranee had been taken in for “disturbing the peace” and Theresa rushed down to confront her. Seeing Taranee with Nigel, she assumed she had lied to go out with him and get up to trouble. She told Taranee was very disappointed in her and slapped her in front of everyone in the room. Taranee, humiliated and infuriated by the unjust treatment, declared she would never forgive her mother. The two returned home but from that night, Taranee began to rebel against Theresa, refusing to be the “perfect” daughter if Theresa would really think her a delinquent. This included intentionally failing her schoolwork. Theresa tried locking the girl in her home office to get her to study, though Taranee still refused. Taranee instead found the file on the Vandom’s custody battle and was going to show it to Will, but Theresa stopped her before she could.[1]

Arc 3: A Crisis on Both Worlds[]

Though Taranee had been stopped in time, she was still considering telling Will the truth. Theresa picked her up after school the following day, scolding her in the car about how this case had to remain a secret. Taranee snipped back sarcastically, which honestly shocked Theresa who asked her what was the matter. Taranee declared she was changing even if Theresa hadn't noticed and was disgusted that her mother would put Susan Vandom on trial despite that they were friends. Theresa was upset by these accusations and declared Taranee wouldn’t understand as she was still a child. This was the last straw for Taranee, who left the car and shrugged off Theresa’s orders to get back inside. The girl ran off and Theresa, realizing how badly injured their relationship was, could do nothing to stop her. Luckily, Tarnee was found by Nigel and returned home later, though things between them were still tense.

Speaking with Taranee did impact Theresa’s decision as she met with Susan the following day to warn her of Thomas’s tactics. Susan thanked her for taking such a risk and Theresa mentioned Taranee’s influence, though also worried about how little she recognized her daughter these days. A feeling Susan could relate to. Therese assured that while Thomas might have a good case, she was still the judge and would do what she could for her friend. Unknown to either of them, Taranee witnessed this discussion and felt very proud of her mother, though still had not forgiven Theresa slapping her.[18] Unfortunately, a private detective hired by Thomas also saw the two and took pictures of the meeting, planning to blackmail Theresa.[19]

After a few more days, Thomas suddenly dropped the custody case and disappeared (Kadma bribed him into step back down). Theresa called Susan to give her the good news. Thomas had also fired the detective, so the photos of Theresa were never used.[19]

Theresa and Taranee seemed to have settled their problems after this, with Taranee doing well in school again and no longer hostile towards Theresa. She also let Taranee and Nigel interact, meaning he’d proven his innocence as well.

With a half day at school, Peter left his own school earlier than Taranee and was having lunch with Theresa and Lionel when Taranee finally arrived home. She announced she’d been accepted into the Redstone Academy Exchange program. She was so delighted, she danced on her chair which Theresa scolded her for. Lionel and Peter were happy for her (leading Theresa to scold her son for also standing on his chair). However, Theresa was more concerned about all they’d need to do to prepare for her trip and worried about her being so far away from home. That evening, Taranee told Theresa she had broken her glasses (as well as her eyes having been fixed with magic), though would use her extra pair on the trip (which were secretly normal glass).[20]

On the day of the trip departure, Theresa found Taranee repacking her suitcase for a third time, trying to be sure she had everything. Theresa warned her about wrinkling the clothing and a stressed Taranee snapped at her for which Theresa scolded her. Taranee apologized, admitting she was nervous about going the long distance from home. Theresa understood, assuring her there was nothing to be worried about. Taranee pointed out that Theresa was the worried one before but the woman admit she was still worried, but now would assure her daughter that she'd have a lot of fun. Peter entered the room, saying Taranee had a visitor. It was Nigel, come to say goodbye to her with a bouquet of flowers. Taranee was delighted to see him, asking why he wasn't at school which a displeased Theresa seconded. Peter coaxed her into the other room to let the teens have their farewell. Lionel and Theresa went with Taranee to the airport, bidding her goodbye and watching her leave.[20]

Taranee was away from home for two weeks, then returned with the rest of her class.[21]

A mysterious prankster vandalized Theresa’s car and other property belonging to the Cooks, which Theresa soon realized when the returned Daniel Ashcroft, out for revenge. At first the parents chose not to report it as they didn’t want to ruin the boy’s life while expecting he’d give up soon. However, he began to involve Nigel and his actions were becoming worse. The parents continued to play oblivious of the culprits and didn’t tell Taranee, worried how this would impact the relationship between her and Theresa after the two had just started to improve again.[22]

The “pranks” gradually began to wear out even Lionel’s patience and when they found Taranee’s bike destroyed, they had had enough. They finally told Taranee the full truth about Daniel and Nigel and that it was time to put a stop to this.[23]

The following evening, Theresa was cooking dinner while Lionel lovingly complimented her on it, until their doorbell rang. It was Nigel, who nervously greeted Lionel for the first time and asked to see Taranee who was surprised by his arrival. Nigel asked to come in, but Daniel called out from the street for Nigel to leave the house immediately. Nigel stood firm, and Lionel invited both into the house to talk. Nigel admitted to Taranee how important she was to him and how ashamed he was of what he had done. Daniel tried to make him stop, calling this “little girl stuff” and Nigel retorted that it took a lot more courage to admit wrongs than it did to commit crimes in secret, shocking Daniel into silence.[23]

Theresa remarked on the boys’ crimes and Nigel offered to pay for all the damages as he didn’t want to lose Taranee’s friendship. However, he also stated that he wasn’t the only person who made a mistake, mentioning that Judge Cook never once trusted him which was unfair. Theresa declared trust must be earned and asked if Nigel thought he deserved such. Nigel bravely replied that this time, he believed he did deserve her trust. An upset Daniel could see Nigel had made his choice, then sadly asked if he would ever be a part of those plans. Nigel assured he would always be a part of his life as his brother, but he had to accept that Nigel’s life had changed. Taranee finally approached Nigel, admitting he’d missed him, and Nigel asks if she could ever forgive the things he’d done. The two hugged while Theresa and Lionel looked on. Seeing them, Theresa understood there was real love between them.[23]

The two were allowed to date again and Nigel earnt the trust of her parents, with Theresa never again trying to separate them.

Arc 4: Trial of the Oracle[]

Taranee had brought Cornelia to the house to hang out. Sometime later, Theresa received a call from Principal Knickerbocker telling of “Taranee’s” (her astral drop’s) bad grade and bad behavior at school. Angered, Theresa went to confront her daughter who immediately apologized, attaching the bad grades to a science test she wasn’t prepared for. She also claimed that for that reason she’d invited Cornelia over to help her study (they had actually been looking for a date for Irma). Theresa believed the excuse but told Taranee they would discuss this more when she came back. On her way out the door, Theresa picked the phone again to have Hay Lin asking for Taranee. Theresa told them of the girl studying and asked her to call back later. Taranee began to take part in an afterschool community service project to make up for her bad grades.[24]

Nigel came over to the Cook home to hang out with Taranee. Sometime during then, Theresa and Lionel left for dinner, though only told Peter. This shows that Nigel had earned their trust.[25]

During family dinner, Peter complimented his mother’s cooking and she correctly assumed had something else to say. He brought up that Taranee had visited the Jensen Dance Academy and was offered a place in their classes. Lionel was happy for this great opportunity. However, Theresa pointed out how much hard work it would be for her, saying it couldn't affect her studies. This upset Taranee and while Theresa turned to wash her places, Taranee ran to her room, leaving the men confused on what to do.[9]

Realizing she was wrong, Theresa later knocked on Taranee’s door and found her packing her bag for school the next day. She went on nagging her about being orderly, then nonchalantly asked her to find out more about the timelines for the dance school’s selection tests. She also said that as Taranee had made a choice, she must take it seriously and start practicing so she will be prepared for her test. She left her shocked daughter’s room, but Taranee understood she was caring about her. Taranee began practicing in earnest while Theresa silently watched over her, proud of her.[9]

Arc 5: The Book of Elements[]

On the day of Taranee’s dance test, all of the Cooks were thinking about her and cheering for her from afar. Taranee later got the news she had passed the audition and would soon begin the intensive course for several days a week.[26]

In the possible future, Taranee moved out of the house and Peter and Cornelia became engaged. He called her several times in a day, which Theresa would make jokes about.[27]

The parents were eventually told that Taranee had permanently ended her relationship with Nigel, this time of her own choice. Peter took this hard and there was some tension between the two, though it faded.[28]

Arc 6: Ragorlang[]

Theresa and Lionel would have been informed about Taranee getting detention. According to Knickerbocker, she and Irma both were disrespecting the school rules and teacher’s authority (by trying to battle Ragorlang-Hay Lin and ditching the class to confront Dr. Folkner).[29]

On the day of the big eclipse, Peter and Taranee were scheduled to head down to the beach to meet their friends. After the two supposedly left, Theresa was on the phone when Taranee secretly reentered the house (she’d seen her unwanted secret admirer) causing Peter to come back in, too. Theresa scolded her son for shouting while she was on the phone and he defended that his sister was being strange. She made a quip about him, though he only called himself adorable and kissed her cheek. Decided no longer to wait, Peter went back to his car (where Taranee was hiding with invisibility.[30]

The following day, Heatherfield was flooded with Kandrakar magic, allowing people to wish for anything they wanted. It is unknown what Theresa would have wished for. Once W.I.T.C.H. took back the magic, everyone fell asleep and forgot what they had been doing for the day.[30]

Taranee was signed up to join her class for their ecology week trip to Noah’s Isle animal preserve. While waiting at the train station, the Cooks were getting information from Mr. Horseberg who was talking about their risk of accidentally missing their connection, though Miss Warton tried to assure they would be fine. Horseberg carried on about all their possibilities. Theresa asked if only the two teachers would be chaperoning but the new school physician, Dr. Folkner, assured them he would be taking care of the kids as well. Once everyone arrived, they boarded their train and left. After a few days, the group returned though Dr. Folkner had mysterious vanished.[31]

Arc 7: New Power[]

Theresa overheard Peter telling Taranee his decision to move out of the Cook house and into an apartment with his friends. Theresa was sad to hear this but put on a brave face to enter the room, joking about the situation and asking Peter to explain his plans which made him feel better.[32]

During the summer break, Theresa booked a trip for Taranee to the prestigious White Castle alpine school, despite the girl saying she didn’t want to go. On the day of her departure, she supervised Taranee packing, saying it was too late to back out to which Taranee reiterated she had had no say in the matter. Theresa declared White Castle would be filled with other kids her own age and she’d have a good time, but Taranee brushed this aside as not what she wanted while predicting it would be a terrible trip. Still unwilling, Taranee left for her trip. On the same day, Cornelia came to the Cook house to help Peter finish pack while Theresa and Lionel would be at work until late. She let them alone with packing, though rushed back in to retrieve her paperwork, unknowingly interrupting a romantic moment before she finally left.[33]

Taranee returned the following week. It’s unknown if she told Theresa what a bad time she had or about the boy she’d met.[33] Peter finally moved out of the house. Shortly after that, Lionel left for a trip abroad.[7]

Theresa found Taranee looking through old pictures of “herself” and admit to having seen the same pictures kept by Audrey, which looked exactly the same. Realizing her trick had been uncovered, Theresa tried to explain the reasoning for a parent not to tell a child they are adopted but Taranee misunderstood that this was about Audrey’s family. When Theresa admit it was about Taranee, the girl was deeply shocked. Theresa desperately tried to explain why she had lied, wanting to Taranee to feel like she had always been a part of them, but Taranee ran away in tears and Theresa was left alone in the hurt she had caused.[7]

Taranee eventually returned home, asking Theresa for more information about her birth family. Theresa explained about their house fire and Taranee left to start looking for that house, though still called Theresa “Mom” which gave her hope. Theresa called Lionel on his trip to tell him what had happened. He in turn called Peter to tell him the truth, too. Peter immediately came back to see Taranee and comfort her.[7]

A few days later, Lionel finally came home and talked with Taranee about the adoption. Theresa listened at the door, crying as Lionel assured Taranee of her place in their family. Theresa tried to take the blame for not telling Taranee but Lionel insisted that as a family, the mistakes they make belong to all of them which Taranee agreed with. Theresa presented Taranee the dossier she’d made of her original family, with Lionel calling her a super sleuth. Taranee accepted this and also made a request for Theresa to sing her favorite lullaby as she had when Taranee was a child.[34]

Taranee went out for a walk by herself but when she came back, she mentioned she needed to eat quickly as she had her show at Jensens' to get to. Lionel offered to order pizza and began a battle with Taranee to find the most outrageous pizza toppings, a game which assured Theresa that all was normal in their house again.[34]

News came of a double twister to hit Heatherfield. While it did come close and damaged a bit, no major destruction was caused before the winds broke up (thanks to Hay Lin). Peter had come by the house during the time and was greeted enthusiastically by Taranee while their parents watched on.[35]

A strong unknown force (Dark Mother) suddenly attacked Heatherfield. Eyes hypnotized people in front of television screens while the streets cracked and things exploded, followed by an earthquake. This all eventually died down, but the streets were left in disaster for some time after.[36]

As Theresa and Lionel had to work late, they let Taranee host her study group in their house in Peter’s old room. They later attended Taranee’s big dance performance and watched her impressive capoeira style, though the performance ended due to “sudden thunderstorm” (accidently caused by W.I.T.C.H.).[37]

Taranee suddenly began to act very oddly (from being overcharged with power), overconfident and disconnected emotionally. This ended quickly (once Dark Mother was defeated) and she returned home in a really happy mood.[38]

Arc 8: Teach 2b W.I.T.C.H.[]

One of Lionel’s colleagues, who owned a hotel by Sleepy Bay, made him a deal to rent a bungalow there. Lionel agreed but as he wanted his kids to come too, he made sure to ask for two of them so Peter and his friends would have their own space. Theresa also reminded him that Taranee would want W.I.T.C.H. to come along, so they added in an extra bungalow to their request.[39]

When Peter came to the Cook home for Sunday dinner, Lionel and Theresa sprung the idea of a family vacation which Taranee was excited for. Peter worried about the space and they admit to having the extra bungalows so the kids could bring their friends. Theresa and Lionel enjoyed their vacation time together while the kids had great fun around Sleepy Bay.[39]

Theresa found Taranee had woken at 6 O'clock to eat breakfast as she had a full day planned. She sprinted out the door and a saddened Theresa went back to her room where Lionel was still half-asleep. She admit to him that Taranee might be lonely without Peter and the house felt too quiet now, with him mumbling his agreements. She decided they could get her a puppy and Lionel again agreed without really understanding. Theresa teased him by saying they’d get Taranee a huge group of animals until he finally woke, very confused.[40]

After school was over, they picked up Taranee and took her to the Moore clinic where they met with Dr. Moore. He showed them the many abandoned animals he was caring for, which surprised the Cooks with how many of them had been left behind by unkind people. Taranee finally realized she was getting a new dog and easily proved her determination to Dr. Moore who agreed she could be trusted with the responsibility. However, he turned to question if the parents could be trusted likewise at which point his own daughter, Luna, cut in that he was better with animals than people. Dr. Moore gave the parents a tour of the clinic while Luna helped Taranee make a choice for her pet. They parents were surprised when Taranee chose a very big dog and tried to sway her to a small puppy, but she insisted she could take care of her own choice and asked that they trust her. Lionel gave in to Theresa’s shock but she likewise agreed, joking they could keep the dog in Peter’s old room. Taranee was given a chance to walk with the dog, Flea, and the two showed to really like each other, thus the dog would stay. They filled out the paperwork and Flea was now a part of their family.[40]

The following day, Theresa was devastated to see how Flea had ripped apart her couch while playing. Taranee apologized for the damage and Lionel told her not to overreach to just a couch. Displeased, Theresa pointed out how Flea had also chewed through his golf clubs and while he was outraged, Taranee took Flea out for a very long walk. By the end of the day, Taranee had convinced her parents to get another dog, the small one they’d wanted her to choose before. Theresa was not sure about this and Lionel again mentioned that he gave in when she asked they trust her. Though they knew two dogs would bring a lot of destruction to their home, they were glad that it would also bring more life to the place as well. Taranee decided to name the new little dog Buddy.[40]

Neither Flea nor Buddy were seen or mentioned after this point.

Taranee went out with her friends and returned home really late with an excuse about having gone to the cinema (she’d actually been in the Fast World). Theresa punished her by ordering her to clean her room for six months, starting immediately. After everyone was asleep, White Queen Arkaam attacked Heatherfield with a plan to deport everyone to the Fast World. To protect the people, Hay Lin used magic to take the slumbering citizens from their homes and hide them into an airport hangar. Once the battle was over, they were all returned to their beds. No one remembered any of this, but everyone had a similar “dream” about flying.[41]

Arc 9: 100% W.I.T.C.H.[]

Taranee traveled to stay with Louisiana for a time.[42]

On the first day back to school, Theresa and Lionel were surprised that Taranee seemed perfectly calm. This changed when she remembered she had one book she hadn’t read for class. Lionel encouraged her she could get through it in a few days and Theresa agreed, saying they likely wouldn’t ask her about it on the first day. But Taranee worried about her very strict new teacher and decided she could just read through the whole book before she got to class. Lionel didn’t think it was possible but Taranee was determined, and her parents could only let her go through with it. Later that day after school ended, Taranee returned in a bad mood. Theresa asked how the day had gone and Taranee remarked she should ask her in French (since she should have studied French instead).[43]

On a Monday morning, Theresa saw Taranee off to school, though the girl was very tired. On the following Sunday, the family decided to go to the beach. Theresa enjoyed the break while Taranee slept.[44]

When Queen Nihila attacked Heatherfield with the power of zodiac, Theresa and Lionel were put under her spell and wandered away from their home. They were saved when W.I.T.C.H. defeated the queen and everything returned to normal.[45]

At some point, Lionel decided to become a stay-at-home dad.[6]

When Lionel was helping Taranee fix her bike, he was tempted to paint Theresa as well. She heard his planning and stopped him, playfully remarking she preferred her “boring” black bike.[6]

On another day, Theresa left Lionel and Taranee to clean up the house. When she returned, Lionel met her at the door with the intention to take her out for dinner. Charmed by this, Theresa remarked on what “good marriage material” he was and was glad she noticed so, kissing him passionately to Taranee’s disgust. They returned later that night to show her the clean house (and never told her about the vacuum explosion that Taranee had cleaned while they were gone).[6]

The Cook family was going through some difficult financial times and agreed to talk to each other as a family before making any big purchases. Despite this, Taranee bought a new cellphone for herself. Theresa found out and scolded her for breaking their promise. Taranee defended she’d earned that money through dog walking for their neighbor. Theresa retorted that was not the issue and while Taranee mentioned that Theresa would have forbidden her to buy it, the judge declared she might have allowed it but now they would definitely be returning the phone to the store. Taranee stormed off to her room but returned later, realizing that Theresa was right. The two made up but Taranee was still punished with no TV for a month.[46]

Later in the day, Theresa went with Taranee to return the cellphone for a refund. While they were out, they bumped into their friends of W.I.T.C.H. and their own mothers. The women greeted one another, having each been so busy they had not seen each other in a while. W.I.T.C.H. revealed they set up a lunch date with both generations and Theresa could catch up with Susan, Anna, Elizabeth, and Joan.[46]

Taranee took a summer trip to stay with Louisiana and Frank (Louisiana’s husband), then on a trip to Star Beach with her friends, chaperoned by Susan and Anna.[47]

The Cooks gained a new neighbor, the Drakes, right across the street from them. Taranee developed a crush on the handsome Jason Drake, though it ended quickly.[48]

The Cooks attended the Heatherfield Theatre festival to see Taranee as one of the main characters in a play about the Rosendorf Countesses.[49]

Arc 10: Ladies vs. W.I.T.C.H.[]

When Taranee won tickets to a concert in Staford that she wanted to bring her friends along to. It was decided the girls could stay in the house that Peter had moved into since it was close to the concert location. However, on the day of their departure, Theresa revealed she had called her cousin Esther to watch over the girls (and secretly snoop around Peter’s house). Taranee didn’t like this plan but ultimately agreed and the group set out to the concert. Theresa called her later after the concert would be over and Taranee confirmed they had made it back to the house.[8]

Arc 11: Magical Sovereign[]

W.I.T.C.H. were sent to a fantasy world where they would act as children. A fantasy-Theresa greeted five-year-old Taranee and with the other mother-daughter groups, enjoyed a picnic together while treating her like a small child. The group then went home where Fantasy-Theresa and Fantasy-Lionel tucked Taranee in for the night, though were surprised when she insisted she didn’t need a nightlight. The following day, the fantasy-moms took W.I.T.C.H. to the pool for their synchronized swimming competition. The moms were confident their girls could win and went to take their seats, witnessing W.I.T.C.H. get into a short battle with other little girls until the coach broke it up. Once W.I.T.C.H. took their turn, they amazed everyone with their choreography and earned great applause. To celebrate, the moms took them out for ice cream and then back to their homes.[50]

Fantasy-Lionel was worried about his work and Fantasy-Theresa noticed, assuring Taranee it would all be okay. She asked Fantasy-Peter (who was also a young child) to come inside but he asked to keeping playing basketball a little longer. Fantasy-Theresa asked Taranee to keep an eye on the boy for her and she was glad to do so. Such a request finally made Taranee feel more grown up and she was able to leave the fantasy world with her friends. On returning home, Taranee surprised the real Theresa with a hug.[50]

Louisiana called the Cooks to plan a visit to their house. Theresa warned Lionel and he, terrified of spending time with his sister, made an excuse to run off. Later on, Taranee came to Theresa with a request to wear her business suit (wanting to feel grown up). Theresa lent her one and told her she looked good, but also wanted an explanation. Taranee declared it was a long story and Theresa joked she could tell it to Louisiana who had just arrived. Theresa answered the door and Louisiana immediately told her she looked awful, which confused the judge. Louisiana entered the house while making more complaints and Theresa turned to Taranee for help though she refused. Louisiana asked about Lionel and Taranee, though the girl gave herself away and was forced out of hiding. Louisiana complimented her attire and told Theresa to follow Taranee’s example, to which Theresa complained that the clothes were originally hers. Even so, Theresa left to make Louisiana her preferred tea and some snacks, letting Taranee have a long conversation with her aunt until she could find a chance to slip away. Theresa was then left to entertain Louisiana on her own. Lionel eventually returned, sneaking in and asking if Louisiana had gone yet. Theresa tried to quiet him but Louisiana heard and now had both of them in her clutches.[5]

Peter came paid a visit to the Cook family, though he and Taranee were gone most of the day. In the evening, the family enjoyed dinner together with Taranee in an especially good mood (having just been promoted to Magical Sovereign).[51]

TV series[]

When Taranee rebelled, she said to Taranee, "We'll talk about trust, in the morning but you're grounded. That doesn't even begin to cover it",[52] and when she caught Taranee talking to Nigel and confiscated her cell phone.[53] She sees this as being protective though Taranee finds it annoying and upsetting.

Trivia[]

  • When Taranee was younger, Theresa would sing a lullaby, Au clair de la lune (By the Light of the Moon), at night until Taranee fell asleep.[54]
  • She is voiced by Mia Korf in the TV series.
  • In issue 78 in the comics, she revealed to Taranee that she was adopted. In the TV series, the adoption is never mentioned and Theresa and Taranee appear to be biological mother and daughter.
