So, the sister of Phobos is finally identified. Now it's only a matter of time.

Lord Cedric

The Stone of Threbe is the eleventh episode of season 1 of the TV series.

Plot[]

Main article: The Stone of Threbe/Transcript

Phobos finally found an indisputable way to find his long-lost younger sister: the Star of Threbe. Back in Heatherfield, The Silver Dragon (Hay Lin's family restaurant) was threatened when Blunk stunk up the joint with his new "home": a garbage dumpster. While the girls tried to give Blunk a much-needed bath, Cedric placed the Star in his window shop and Elyon, under its magical influence, walked in and took it. Now, when the girls tried to change back, they found themselves stuck in Guardian form and powerless. Not knowing what to do, the girls raced back to The Silver Dragon to enlist the help of both Yan Lin and Caleb and they learned of the Star, it's power and origin.

In the meantime, Cedric sent a monster plant to Earth to keep the Guardians distracted while he made contact with the long-lost princess: Elyon! The girls were forced to fight without their powers until the princess returned the Star to Cedric, which gave the girls back to their powers. Unfortunately, Phobos finally found his long-lost sister, but she remained ignorant of her true identity as royalty and home world.

Comics connections[]

  • The Silver Dragon's cook appears in this episode for the first time. Although his name isn't mentioned on screen, he's called Fang according to issue 18 of the comic book.

Quotes[]

Prince Phobos:

The Star of Threbe.

Lord Cedric:

Are you certain?

Prince Phobos:

Seven points, as the lore of Meridian describes it. A thousand years of searching. The star will bring my sister to me.

Prince Phobos:

Tell me. Tell me the Star of Threbe has located the girl.

Lord Cedric:

She took it and placed it around her neck.

Prince Phobos:

Soon all the power of Meridian shall be mine.

Yan Lin:

Back when Meridian was a peaceful, happy place, a young girl, Weira, heir to the throne, wandered from her parents and was lost. Weira's parents were frantic and beseeched the Mage for help. The Mage used the Heart of Kandrakar to create a locator stone, a seven-pointed star.

The Mage [shown in a flashback]:

This star will summon for you one person who is lost, and when she finds it, it will render powerless anything or anyone that might prevent her returning home.

Yan Lin:

But if activated, the star could never be destroyed and might one day serve their enemies. Weira was drawn to the star. It guided her safely back to her family. Her father threw the Star into the volcano of Threbe, hoping to destroy it. If Phobos found it, this explains the loss of your powers. The Guardians are trying to prevent his sister's return home.

Hay Lin:

How long will we be like this?

Yan Lin:

It could be an hour.

Taranee Cook:

I can handle that.

Yan Lin:

Or it could be forever.

Irma Lair:

What?

Cornelia Hale:

You mean the really long forever?

Yan Lin:

Worse than that, I'm afraid, is the possibility that, with the star's help, Phobos has finally found the one he is seeking.

Yan Lin:

They could be powerless until the star passes to a new owner.

Will Vandom:

Well, that's just great. Who wants to date a 95-pound moth?

Will Vandom:

OK, we will never take our powers for granted again.

Yan Lin:

Ah, if your powers are back, the Star of Threbe has done its work. Phobos has the person he seeks.

Trivia[]

  • This episode marks the first appearances of Bess and Courtney Grumper.
  • Cornelia's last name, Hale, is said onscreen for the first time.
  • This is the first time when the Guardians' powers were neutralized. It happened again in N is for Narcissist.
  • This episode marks the only time Will was heard saying "Change back.", or any other phrase, for the Guardians to return to their earthly forms. However, as their powers were neutralized, it did not work. A similar instance of a unique Guardian phrase failing to work occured in the next episode.
  • Elyon iwas revealed to be the long-lost younger sister of Prince Phobos. However, the W.I.T.C.H. girls were not aware of it until the next episode.
  • The Star of Threbe is said to guide the lost heir to her truest home, but it did not take Elyon back to Meridian. Instead, she wandered the city and then simply returned to Cedric's bookstore, whence she had taken the jewel in the first place. It is notable that the bookstore has an inversion point to Meridian, while the only known portal in this episode was stated to be in solid rock. However it's also possible that Elyon did not wear the necklace long enough for it to work or that she was resisting it's power (given the ritual later undertaken to lessen her reistance this is highly likely).
  • Weira, the heir to the Meridian throne whom the Star was created to locate, shares her name with Prince Phobos and Elyon's birth mother, as revealed in J is for Jewel. While she is never explicitly confirmed to be the same character, it is notable that, as with the queen in the comics, in this episode she is depicted as having red hair, contrasting with the blonde hair of Elyon and Phobos. However, if she is indeed the same character, it would imply that either time or aging (or both) works very differently on Meridian, given Phobos' comment about a "thousand years of searching".
