The Battle of The Meridian Plains is the twenty-third episode of season 1 of the TV series.

Plot[]

Main article: /Transcript

Cedric blocked the village's water source, in the hopes that thirsty Meridianites would break down and reveal the location of the rebels’ secret hideout. There's fresh water in a nearby lake but it was inhabited by an elusive creature called the Kaithim, which the Guardians had to battle.

Cedric discovered the entrance to the Infinite City, just before Vathek was able to seal his comrades inside. Aldarn, separated from Caleb and with limited food before the City would be inevitably overtaken, made a tactical decision to charge the Castle.

Caleb and the Guardians joined the premature attack but the uprising failed as Elyon used her intense power. Many rebels, including Aldarn and Caleb's father, were thrown in Phobos' dungeons.

In the B-story, Hay Lin had a nightmare about being Elyon and trapped on a throne, which worried Yan Lin as the air Guardian often has the power of precognition.

Release notes[]

Alternate title card

  • This episode had the slightly different title "The Battle of Meridian Plains" in the US. This title was also used in the Western European DVD menu, but not in the actual episode, where the title is "The Battle of The Meridian Plains" like on the other European DVD releases.

Possible mistakes[]

  • During the battle with the Kaithim, Will was briefly visible in one shot even though she wasn't supposed to be present as she was at the castle at the time.
  • There is an error at the end of the episode: when Hay Lin was briefly seen from behind, she had long sleeves instead of her customary cropped tank top.

Trivia[]

  • In one shot during the battle, multiple creatures like Gargoyle were shown. As this was the only instance in which this happens, it is unclear whether there is in fact an entire species of them. However, it is notable that of the creatures resembling Gargoyle in this episode, none has its arm cut off as Gargoyle does following the events of It Resumes.
  • Despite not having a specific elemental ability until season 2, Will is not left without offensive powers in season 1 (as is commonly assumed). In this episode, she demonstrated both superstrength by lifting a massive catapult and later effortlessly toppling a huge container with molten liquid, and direct attack power when she shot a pink beam of light from the Heart to down a flying creature. Similar demonstrations occur in The Labyrinth (superstrength), and Divide and Conquer and Escape from Cavigor (light beam attacks).
