Peter Lancelot Cook is Taranee's older brother, the son of Theresa and Lionel Cook. Peter currently attends college and lives in Staxford in a house with three friends.

Personality[]

Peter is a very easygoing guy that doesn't let much upset him and always tries to see the brighter side of things. He is very perceptive of others' feelings and tries to cheer them up if he senses that they're down.[citation needed]

He is fiercely protective of his loved ones and would do anything for them. If they needed a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen or whatever else, he is always there. He is very dependable and would drop everything and come to a loved one's side if they needed him, something he would do even if they hadn't asked. Something which he did for Taranee.[1]

Plot[]

Comics[]

Peter was born to Theresa and Lionel Cook in the town of Sesamo. A few years later, his parents adopted his younger sister, Taranee; neither child was aware she was adopted and Peter was too young to notice.[1]

At one point, Taranee confided in Peter that she thought their mother was nicer to him than to her. Peter disagreed, mentioning all the many ways their parents show her love. Taranee felt better and asked if Peter loved her too, which he answered that he did.[2]

During the summers, they would visit the glacier outside of Heatherfield and he would teach Taranee how to ski.[3]

Taranee once asked him if he’d ever felt out of place. He was confused and mentioned he felt like he belonged in the Roman period, but she clarified that she sometimes felt like she belonged in another family (she’d started to suspect she was adopted). He asked if it was important to know where you were born and while she thought it was, he offered another idea. He showed her a flower which had grown in their garden far away from where its seed started, yet it found everything it needed to bloom, thus was where it needed to be. Taranee liked this analogy, calling Peter a poet while he called her a beautiful flower which she appreciated.[2]

When he was a bit older, Peter practiced martial arts, but wasn’t very good and eventually quit. He also went through a phase wearing his hair in an afro, but eventually changed it to his now signature dreadlocks.[4]

Theresa accepted a job as judge in Heatherfield, so the Cooks left Sesamo. Unfortunately, the night of their leaving was the night of Taranee’s last dance test, which really broke her heart as Peter knew.[5]

Peter was very excited to move to Heatherfield as he would get to experience the town's surf, something he could never try in his hometown of Sesamo.[6]

Arc 1: The Twelve Portals[]

Shortly before Halloween, the Cooks settled into their new home in Heatherfield. Peter was enrolled into the Heatherfield Art Institute while Taranee attended Sheffield Institute (and became a Guardian of the Veil).[7]

Taranee went out with her friends but unknown to her family, she was captured and held prisoner in Meridian. An Astral Drop was summoned to take her place and no one knew it wasn’t her. The following day, Peter and his parents picked up “Taranee” from school (where he unknowingly attracted the interest of Cornelia Hale). That evening, the real Taranee returned home and after merging with her drop, reentered her family without anyone noticing.[8]

Shortly after arriving to Heatherfield, Peter met Irene who he started a relationship with. However, he didn’t have very deep feelings for her and the two eventually broke up.[4]

Though he didn’t attend Sheffield Institute, Peter was aware of Uriah Dunn’s reputation and of Nigel Ashcroft who split from the bully to pursue Taranee. When Nigel came to pick her up for their first date, Peter teased the two, then assured the worried Theresa that Nigel was a good, trustworthy guy.[9]

Taranee left her books and snack at home, so Peter drove over to Sheffield Institute to deliver them to her. She thanked him for looking out for her and as he left, he spied Cornelia who he said hello to, making her blush. The Grumper sisters noticed Cornelia’s crush and claimed that Will also liked Peter to make the girls argue, though this as quickly resolved. When the Guardians tried to visit Kandrakar, they slipped into dreams where Cornelia imagined herself dating Peter.[10]

On a rainy day, Peter went out surfing for the best waves. When Taranee called him with a request to pick up her and her friends, he agreed and drove his car over to meet them. Cornelia, too nervous around him, made up an excuse about running which he accepted, bidding her goodbye.[11]

Arc 2: Nerissa's Revenge[]

Theresa ultimately decided Nigel was no good for Taranee and forbade the girl from dating him. Peter was used to their arguing and picking up the ringing phone, informed Will Vandom that she wouldn’t get a chance to talk to Taranee for a while. After Taranee ran away to her room, he made a joke to Theresa’s “sentence without appeal”, to which he told him not to play his sister’s defense attorney.[12]

Unknown to the family, they were being watched by an old enemy of the Guardians – Frost the Hunter, who even snuck into their house to threaten Taranee. While Peter was on his way home from school, he was approached by a “stranger” (Frost in disguise) who asked for help in starting his car. Peter agreed but after turning to an isolated place, Frost knocked him unconscious and kidnapped him to use against Taranee. Peter wasn’t hurt but kept unconscious in an energy bubble, beneath an abandoned building. Taranee and friends came to his rescue and once Frost was defeated, Peter was freed from the energy bubble. Taranee took him home with some excuse about what had happened.[12]

Taranee spent the first part of summer vacation with the Lair family at McCormick Camp. After that, Peter and his parents came to take her back home, with him helping get her bags and joking about how heavy they were. Mrs. Lair asked if Peter or Lionel wanted to visit the beach, but the family already had plans for the rest of their vacation. With Taranee, they traveled back to Sesamo for a few weeks, which involved mountain climbing. They returned to Heatherfield by the start of the new school year.[13]

Peter was informed that Theresa wanted to give Nigel another chance and had invited the boy to their house for a movie Night. She’d asked Peter to pick up the movie but on the way, he bumped into an upset Cornelia and the two talked. She soon ran away without explanation (she was afraid her crush on Peter would make her forget Caleb). [14]

Peter came home and jokingly “accused” Theresa of making his favorite for dinner, kissing her on the cheek. However, she was in a bad mood (Taranee had run off without forewarning) and asked Peter what he knew about the Rock and Roll café. He gladly gave glowing reviews about the place which calmed her worries until he also let slip that the café would be closed that night. This outraged Theresa as Taranee had said she was going there to write an article, thinking she’d lied about where she really was. Peter didn’t think his sister would really be doing anything wrong but silently scolded himself for getting her into trouble.[15]

Truthfully, it was all a misunderstanding as Taranee didn’t know the café would closed. But while out with Nigel, Hay Lin, and Eric Lyndon, she was falsely accused of public disturbance (thanks to Uriah) and taken downtown. Theresa fully believed Taranee was guilty and great tension grew between the women for a long time.[15] [16][17] Eventually, the two settled their issues and peace returned to the Cook home. Nigel was also welcomed back into her life and Peter began a friendship with the younger boy and invited him to join his basketball team.[18]

Arc 3: A Crisis on Both Worlds[]

Peter was at home having lunch with his parents when Taranee arrived. She shared her great news that she had been accepted to the Redstone Academy exchange program, thus would be flying with her classmates to the other side of the world. Lionel and Peter were delighted for her, with Peter mentioning that Redstone was a surfers paradise. He also asked if she might buy him a special surfboard during her trip, though she refused. Theresa admitted worries for Taranee to go so far away but Peter and Lionel assured she would be okay. On the day of the trip departure, Peter answered the door to greet Nigel who’d come to bid Taranee goodbye. Taranee was delighted to see him but Theresa was suspicious of him not being in school. Peter coaxed her into leaving the two alone to say their farewells. [19]

Taranee was away from home for two weeks, then returned with the rest of her class.[20]

Taranee became very upset and melancholy for a time, due to Nigel’s sudden absence. Nigel has also quit Peter’s basketball group with an excuse about being too busy.[18] At the same time, a mysterious prankster vandalized Theresa’s car and other property belongings to the Cooks. However, neither Theresa nor Lionel contacted the authorities about the damages.[21] Taranee mentioned to Peter of Nigel’s distance and Peter, believing in Nigel, suggested something might be happening in his life that is having a big impact on him.

Peter saw Nigel at the winter festival and invited him to join his basketball team in a pickup game. Nigel agreed and showed great enthusiasm for the sport, proving he still loved it. Just as their side was winning, another boy arrived and ordered Nigel to come with him, which the suddenly nervous youth agreed to, apologizing. Peter recognized him as “ Danny Ashcraft” - Nigel's big brother – and remarked that it would be a shame to stop now. He was brushed off and the brothers left with Nigel noticeably uncomfortable. Peter asked his friends about Danny and they revealed that he’d gotten into trouble last year and was sentenced to community service in another city by Judge Cook, though was now returned. Peter connected the dots between this troublemaker and Nigel’s recent absences. That evening, he went to Taranee, telling her about Daniel and asking that she stay close to Nigel so he would not feel alone. Taranee admit that she had already had a bad encounter with the brother which led to "her” (really her astral drop) yelling at Nigel.[21]

While Peter was not present, Nige came to the Cook home to admit his guilt for the recent vandalisms and wanting to make amends. As Peter later heard, Nigel stood up to Daniel and essentially turned his back on his brother for the sake of respecting Theresa and being allowed to stay with Taranee. Peter greatly admired his courage for this.[21]

Arc 4: Trial of the Oracle[]

Peter drove by Sheffield Institute to take Taranee home, asking her friends if they also wanted to ride. Cornelia shyly agreed and they drove to her apartment building, with Peter playing the part of a chauffeur and calling her “Miss Hale”, which charmed her completely. The Cook siblings went home after that and Peter made plans to hang out with his best friend, Joel Wright.[22]

Later, the doorbell rang and Peter expected it to be Joel but it was Cornelia again. Joel came up the street right behind her and the two boys started joking around about Joel’s excuses for being tardy. When asked, Peter referred to Cornelia as his "little sister’s friend", which broke her heart. The two went out surfing together. By evening time, Matt Olsen (Peter's friend and Joel's bandmate) had joined them with his guitar, trying to compose a song. Joel asked Peter to give the boy advice about women and Peter bragged that he could write a book about them. They were joined by Nigel, asking to read Peter’s “book”, because Taranee had cancelled their date with a lame excuse. Peter teased that she might not have had a “good” excuse, though her bailing on him was not a good sign for their restarted relationship. Nigel suspected she was going out with her friends and when Joel asked Matt if Will (Matt's crush) might be with them, Peter pointed out the boy was being “sentimental”. He asked the younger male if he was writing a new song but Matt didn’t answer, with Joel joking that he liked to be mysterious.[22]

Taranee had brought Cornelia to the Cook house to hang out. Sometime later, Principal Knickerbocker called to tell of “Taranee’s” (really her astral drop’s) bad grades and behavior. Peter could see their mother’s anger and ran ahead to warn Taranee, then left before Theresa arrived. Luckily, Taranee could smoothly escape punishment and after completing some community service projects, made up her bad grades.[23]

Peter learned from Joel that Matt finally went out on a date with Will but since then, the boy had been avoiding his friends as he knew they would tease him. [24]

Famous rockstar Karmilla was scheduled to give a concert in Heatherfield and Peter reserved tickets for his friends. The day of the concert, he took Joel with him to pick them up from the Heatherdome. While waiting in line, they made jokes about the weatherwoman until being caught by the ticket seller at which point Peter awkwardly mentioned his reservation. After paying for their tickets, Joel made them linger so he could buy a new Karmilla t-shirt, not risking buying it that evening when it might be sold out. Joel also teased Peter about his old car, though when Peter pointed out he’d loaded their surfboards, Joel changed his tune. They tried to call Matt to join them, remarking on him still dodging them though they would catch him eventually.[25]

After some time hanging out on the beach, they finally got Matt to pick up his phone, gloating about the tickets. This confused Matt and the two joked that he’d flipped before reminding him of the Karmilla concert. He did agree to meet them at the beach and once there, finally told them about his date with Will (while leaving out parts of her being a Guardian). When he admitted that he had finally kissed her, the boys congratulated him.[25]

That evening, Peter and Joel went to the concert and met up with W.I.T.C.H. Joel immediately bonded with Irma Lair over their Karmilla obsession, leading Cornelia to make jokes about them. She turned around to tell her own friend but when she saw it was Peter, he agreed with her observations. She laughed, admitting she was a bit embarrassed, and Peter finally noticed how cute she was when not acting haughty. The teens watched as Karmilla took the stage and greatly enjoyed the concert. This marked the start of Peter’s crush on Cornelia.[25]

Since the concert, Peter had tried to get in contact with Cornelia but was told repeatedly she was busy with skating (though she was really just playing hard to get).[26]

Nigel came over to the Cook home to hang out with Taranee. Sometime during this, Theresa and Lionel left for dinner, though only told Peter. He remained in his room until the pizza man arrived with Taranee and Nigel’s food. When neither of them answered the door, he went looking for them and found the two having a romantic moment. He playfully interrupted them, telling Nigel to “head to the door”, which predictably flustered the boy. Satisfied, Peter clarified that they had to go get their pizza, then walked back to his room.[26]

The next day, Peter was going with Matt to play basketball, making jokes about the boy's dour mood. Seeing it was romantic drama, Peter assured him that everyone had them, including himself. Matt joked that Peter only paid attention to sports, so he mentioned there was a girl he liked (Cornelia) who didn’t seem to like him back. He mentioned her many claims of being busy and Matt correctly identified as her playing hard to get, encouraging Peter that she really did like him. Peter remarked on Matt’s insight and he made a cryptic message about being trusted with a girl’s heart (meaning Will and the Heart of Kandrakar). Peter broke up his serious mood by throwing him the ball and they continued playing, not knowing Lord Cedric was eavesdropping. [26]

Peter was home alone when he spied Cornelia walking to their front door, though she turned back at the last moment. Shortly after, the doorbell rang and Peter thought it was her coming back but it was Taranee, who he caught in a kiss with Nigel. Peter teasingly called her a “heartbreaker” but she questioned the goofy smile on his face over who he thought she might be. He only declared he was happy to confirm something he’d suspected, thinking that Cornelia had come by to see him but chickened out (really, she’d come to see Taranee and changed her mind). His speculations were cut off by Joel calling to tell him he couldn’t come to the beach as Matt scheduled surprise band practice. Peter joked that Joel didn't sound enthusiastic and he remarked he had “better ways to spend the day” (as he was hanging out with Irma).[27]

Peter was hanging out with Matt at the beach but while Peter was enjoying the waves, Matt was trying to call Will as she was late for their date. Peter declared he should trust Will had a good excuse, then went back to surfing while Matt ran off to find her anyway. Sometime after, Peter received a call from Matt who told him he’d finally heard from Will and that she and Taranee were studying together (a cover story for the girls who were really in Kandrakar).[28]

When one of Peter's friends was hosting a beach party, Peter finally decided to face Cornelia directly by inviting her with a hand delivered letter. At the Hale home, Cornelia's little sister Lillian answered the door and he greeted her as “kiddo”, while asking if Cornelia was preset. The Guardian became so flustered she nearly dropped the fish tank she was holding (she did drop the Sands of Time), though confirmed she was unharmed. He helped her by taking the tank back to the table with apologies for startling her, then giving her the invitation. While she floundered with the usual excuses, saying she might not be able to make it (more lies), he cut in that he would understand but truly wanted to deliver the letter to her in person, which greatly charmed her. He left soon after that. [29]

Due to Cornelia breaking her magical hourglass, time was reversed back to before Peter delivered the letter. This time, Cornelia was expecting him and she answered the door herself. Once again, she accepted the invitation to the party. Unknown to him, Cornelia's grandmother, who had been visiting at the time and noticed the chemistry between them, disapproved of him for his Rastafarian style.[29]

Despite his efforts, things still weren’t smooth for Peter. He'd offered Cornelia a ride to the party, but she insisted on getting there herself, which he respected. The day of the party, Peter enjoyed himself with his friends but as far as he knew, Cornelia never arrived (she did but she chickened out and ran away). Instead, she called him to say she was sick at home, though he noticed she wasn't calling him from her house (she was using a payphone). He didn’t know what the reason for this was, but he assumed she had her own reasons and didn’t call her on the obvious lie.[30]

Peter was surfing with Joel, who paused to take a phone call from Irma. Later, Peter was the first one home and greeted Taranee when she returned, noting the happy look on her face. She admitted she’d gone to the auditions of the Jensen Dance Academy and after showing them her moves, was invited to join the school. Peter was happy for her and mentioned he’d noticed how sad she waws since quitting dance when they moved. His understanding greatly relieved Taranee but noticing her sad looked, he correctly guessed that she was worried of how to tell their parents.[5]

That evening during dinner, Peter complimented his mother’s cooking and she correctly assumed he was leading up to something. He asked Taranee if he could be the one to talk about her dancing, treating it as a very exciting topic and claiming that he wanted to be the “center of attention” (saving his sister the anxiety). Lionel was encouraging to Taranee’s dreams but Theresa worried about it distracting her and while she went to rinse her plates, a heartbroken Taranee ran to her room. Neither Peter nor Lionel knew what to do. Luckily, Theresa did give her support to the dancing and Taranee began to practice for her audition.[5]

Arc 5: The Book of Elements[]

On the day of Taranee’s dance test, all of the Cooks were thinking about her and cheering for her from afar. Taranee later got the news she’d passed her auditions and soon would begin the intensive training course for several days a week. [31]

In the possible future, Taranee moved out of the house and Peter and Cornella became engaged. He called Corneelia several times in a day, which Theresa would make jokes about. [32]

Peter and Matt went together to the Sunday market, though split up to look at different things. Peter found an old skating magazine and flipped through it, not knowing he was being spied on by an invisible Taranee and Cornelia. Inside of the magazine, there was a picture of Cornelia as a kid when she’d won a big award. Though this threw Cornelia into a panic (to the point she wanted Taranee to read his mind) Peter bought the magazine which made her kind of happy. Shortly after that, a fire broke out in the market and in all the confusion, Peter was burned on his arm. However, when he went to the ambulance for treatment, the burn was miraculously gone (healed by Cornelia).[33]

Matt and Joel's band, Cobalt Blue, asked Peter for help as they needed equipment for their performance at the Rock and Roll café. Peter agreed to ask Knickerbocker to borrow Sheffield Institute's equipment. On his way to pick them up in his car, he spied Cornelia on the street and offered her a ride. They talked about the concert and eventually touched on the issue of her not attending the beach party, though he made it clear he wouldn’t question her about it. They tried to talk, stumbling over each other, though all he wanted to know was where she wanted to go. She mentioned visiting Hay Lin and Peter understood, having already heard about Eric leaving town which left Hay Lin heartbroken. After dropping off Cornelia, Peter moved the equipment to the Rock and Roll café.[30] He also learned from Matt that his mother was going out of town for a business trip.[34]

Peter was contacted by Knickerbocker to get the school audio equipment back, stating Cobalt Blue had borrowed them too many times already. Peter asked Matt to meet up and get them, but Matt never showed up (he’d been trapped in the Book of Elements). Thinking something came up, Peter went home. In the early morning, Peter tried to call Matt at home, but he didn’t pick up. Seeing Taranee, he asked her if Will had gone out with Matt but this startled his sister who choked on her breakfast.[34]

Peter suddenly received an email from “Matt” (actually Cornelia) claiming he’d gone to Midgale to help a friend move. But Peter noticed the email didn’t sound like Matt’s style and lacked his usual spelling mistakes, making his suspicious of it.[35]

Since he couldn’t contact Matt, Peter tried to talk to Will but struggled to find her. He tried to see her once Sheffield Institute let out for the day, but she was picked up by her mother instead. Though he’d missed Will, he spied Cornelia and invited her for a ride, though she was hesitant to accept (knowing he'd ask about Matt). She eventually caved and while they first spoke about Will’s mom’s wedding plans, it quickly turned to Matt with Peter thinking his disappearance strange as well as the email he’d received. He explained to Cornelia that he needed to get the equipment back as soon as possible and now might be in trouble if he couldn't contact Matt. Cornelia lied that Matt might have told Will about going to Midgale but she’s too busy with her mother’s wedding, which Peter begrudgingly accepted.[35]

Peter did get the amps back (thanks to Cornelia and Hay Lin) [34] [35] and though this settled his issue with Knickerbocker, Peter remained suspicious about Matt's disappearance.

Peter picked up the phone and greeted Nigel who asked to talk to Taranee. However, the girl asked Peter to tell him she was out which shocked him. He agreed, though wanted an explanation and lied to his friend that his sister was gone. After that, he went to Taranee, offering to hear whatever the issue was as he could tell she was depressed about something. With some reluctance, Taranee explained that while she did still like Nigel, so much of her life had changed and she no longer had the time for him. Peter correctly assumed that she was neglecting Nigel while obsessing over the dance school, but Taranee refused that this was the case. She then outright admitted to Peter she might no longer be in love with Nigel (she’d already started crushing on another boy), shocking her brother as well as angering him. He called this absurd, reminding her of how much Nigel has sacrificed to be with Taranee, even daring to stand up to his brother so as not to hurt their mother. Disgusted by this, Peter turned to leave her room. She tried to explain herself but Peter refused, saying it was not in his interest to understand her decisions and only hoped that she had a good reason for why she’d changed so much and thrown Nigel away. He stormed out of her room, leaving Taranee upset as she hadn’t wanted to disappoint him.[36]

Peter’s anger eventually subsided and the Cook siblings went back to normal. However, Nigel was never seen again, so it’s unknown if Peter remained close friends with him and simply didn’t talk about him with Taranee anymore.

Taranee was invited to the Warmwater Spa with her friends and Grandma Hale. Hearing about the buses being on strike, Peter agreed to drive Taranee, Will, Irma, and Hay Lin. Irma remarked doubtfully about the “old crate” getting them there, which Peter did not appreciate. They started their trip but when Peter again tried to ask the girls about Matt’s whereabouts, they did all they could to divert him, with Taranee lying about a dog in the road and Irma singing loudly. By the time they reached Warmwater, Peter was eager to escape. He helped the girls move their luggage into the hotel and was greeted by Cornelia, but reject her invitation to stay as he ran off. The girls took the bus back home the next day.[37]

Matt finally returned home and met with Peter and Joel. Neither of them asked where the boy had been, only being glad he’d come back, which he appreciated. They decided to celebrate his return by going out for triple burgers at the Golden Diner. [38]

Joel met Peter on the beach with some news: he’d just gotten a note from Irma which seemed like she was confessing romantic feelings to him (it was actually a fan letter meant for Karmilla). Peter was happy for them, remarking that Irma was quite enterprising but this was bolder than he'd expected. Joel wasn’t sure what to do, worried he might ruin their friendship, but Peter pushed him to take the next step. He could already see Joel was in love with Irma and brought up how the blond often teased Matt about Will in the past.[39]

Peter eventually got the news that Matt had been chosen as Karmilla’s new guitarist, thus would be leaving Heatherfield for a while. He drove Matt to the airport, declaring it was the start of his road to fame and fortune. Matt greeted Will there and Peter continued to joke, asking Matt not to forget his “old friends” when he’s a celebrity, which Matt retorted he wouldn't forget as they still had CDs they’d borrowed from him. The two went on to roughhouse until Matt entered the building, at which point he was met by the rest of W.I.T.C.H., pretending to be his adoring fans. The group watched as Matt boarded the plane and left with the rest of Karmilla’s crew.[39]

Arc 6: Ragorlang[]

Peter and Joel went on a trip to Three Pine beach with Cornelia, Irma, and Will. Cornelia and Irma disappeared for a time and Peter found then arguing in the bushes, overhearing Irma declare that Cornelia was in love with him which made him delighted. Playing oblivious, he asked the two what they were doing and a flustered Cornelia started to tell a ridiculous lie about beach vampires until Irma silenced her, asking where Will was. Peter took them to the beach to “find their friend” and watched as Joel splashed Irma with water as revenge for her not greeting him. She chased him down the beach and Peter felt a bit envious that they could play like that, while he couldn’t imagine joking in such a way with Cornelia. The group decided to race out into the water but Irma suggested Peter take Cornelia out on his surfboard, assuring him she’d like it a lot. Peter agreed and they enjoyed their ride until a big wave knocked her off. She then surprised Peter by swimming the rest of the way on her own (aided by Irma’s magic).[40]

Once they finished their trip, Peter drove Irma and Cornelia home. As they arrived to the Lair house Irma teased the two as “love birds”, making them both blush. Left alone, Peter finally started to admit he’d heard what Cornelia has said before, but surprised her by complimenting her funny excuse about vampires which made her feel better. They soon reached Cornelia's house with Peter parking behind a limo there, but they were struck from behind by another car. Assuring they were both okay, Peter went to check on the driver who hit him and found it was an apologetic old man with bad reflexes. Peter quickly got the man’s identification to handle the damages and while the man left, Peter kindly greeted Grandma Hale who’d been in the car he’d bumped during the collision. He asked if they could handle the paperwork right away and she replied coldly, blaming him for putting Cornelia in danger. Confused, Peter pointed out that he was the one hit but Grandam kept talking, telling Cornelia he wasn’t good enough for her which he took offence to. He didn’t say anything else as Cornelia was ushered inside while he went over the paperwork with Grandma Hale’s chauffer.[40]

Not going to let this go, however, Peter chose to prove Grandma Hale wrong. He sent flowers and a formal letter to her, apologizing for “any insult” he might have given her or Cornelia by not making proper greetings, asking to be forgiven. As expected, this sophisticated response left Grandma Hale with no complaints to make and with her mother's encouragement, Cornelia called Peter to thank him in her Grandma’s place.[40] This display earned Peter the respect of Cornelia's family.

Peter heard from Taranee about her not being picked as an extra in a big music video, despite that her friend had been chosen. Later, when attending the Sheffield Institute Olympics inauguration with Cornelia, he saw his sister on the stage performing a dance while being televised across town. Cornelia was happy for her and Peter agreed; instead of just being an extra, she was shown as the leading lady. [41]

One of Peter’s friends, Rachel, developed a crush on him and was trying to get his attention. Taranee took notice of this, though Peter seemed oblivious.[42]

On the day of the big eclipse, Peter was waiting for Taranee in his car, though she was taking too long getting ready. When she did finally come outside, she suddenly turned around and crawled her way back in (she’d seen her unwanted admirer). Peter went in to find her and after giving her until the count of five, declared he’d be leaving her behind. Theresa scolded him for yelling while she was on the phone and he defended that his sister was being strange, to which she also made a quip about him. He only declared himself adorable, kissing Theresa’s cheek then going back to his car. He drove away, believing he’d left Taranee at home, but she suddenly appeared in the back seat (having used invisibility) and startled him. She declared she'd just wanted to prank him and he laughed good-naturedly about it. [42]

At the beach, they met some of her friends on the rock cliff to watch the event, but once again Taranee started acting strange, trying to hide behind him. He demanded to know what was the problem and she pointed out the boy she was hiding from. At that moment, Rachel invited Peter to join the rest of their friends at a different spot and he eagerly agreed. Taranee asked who would be her shield now and he declared this not his problem as he’d had enough of her weirdness. With Rachel, he spent the eclipse with his friends. Unknown to him, Cornelia saw this and began to doubt herself in winning his heart.[42]

The following day, unaware of the Kandrakar magic flooding Heatherfield, Peter made his way to Sheffield institute (despite not being a student there). At the gate, Cornelia spotted him and both of their wishes were activated at once, with her enthusiastically asking him out (his wish) and him saying yes with eloquent romantic words (her wish). They made a date to the movies and Cornelia ran off, choosing to ditch school to get ready. Knickerbocker had already cancelled school for the day (due to all the issues from the wishes), so Peter also went home. Eventually, the Guardians took back all the magic, putting everyone to sleep and making them forget this day had happened.[42]

The next day, Peter didn’t remember his date with Cornelia, but he decided to ask her out himself. He met her in the copy room and wrote a note which he sent through the copier. When he asked her to pick it up, she read his invitation for pizza and, delighted, said yes. Once school let out, they walked home together, linking hands and smiling to one another.[42]

Karmilla was set to return to Heatherfield for another concert, meaning Matt would be coming back to town. Taranee’s dance class was also going to perform at the concert and Peter made plans to go with Cornelia. On the night of the concert, he picked her up in his car, but both were too concerned in their own thoughts to speak. They remained in awkward silence until their arrival where Cornelia ran to Irma and Hay Lin, affectively turning it into a group outing. Peter greeted an equally unhappy Joel who had also just had his plans ruined. Trying to take initiative, Peter started to talk to Cornelia about his feelings, but was cut off when Folkner – now a Ragorlang – drained the energy from everyone except for W.I.T.C.H. The Guardians defeated the ex-hunter and the energy returned, letting Peter and the others go back to normal. But seeing Cornelia has suddenly disappeared, he worried she’d run away. She returned soon after to his relief, and he felt determined to finally tell her his feelings. She beat him to it by grabbing his shirt, telling him he meant a lot to her, and kissing him. He returned the kiss gladly and they became an official couple after this.[43]

Peter was eventually informed that Joel and Irma had drifted apart, no longer pursuing romantic relationship with each other.

Arc 7: New Power[]

Peter graduated from the Heatherfield Art Institute and after much consideration, decided he would move out of his parents’ home. With his friends - Roger, Stan, and Richard - they found a potential apartment, but he hesitated in how to tell his parents, especially his mother.[44]

After months of consideration, he told his plans to Taranee, who worried about their mother’s feelings but also joked that boys living alone would make a big mess. At that point, Theresa entered the room and, putting on a brave face, asked Peter more about his plans. He was glad for her support and told her where they’d picked their apartment. Taranee also helped him with his packing, the two making jokes about how to label boxes, and she admitted how much she was going to miss him when he left.[44]

During the summer, Taranee had been forced to leave for an alpine camp. At the same time, Cornelia's family was off on vacation (leaving her with her grandmother), so she and Peter made plans to hang out. Cornelia came over to the house to help him with his packing. Cornelia was having fun rummaging through his history, find old pictures of his past hobbies and teasing him about his former afro. She was particularly interested in a picture of him and Irene, his former girlfriend, which he declared was over a long time ago. The two made a date for the movies but while Peter got there early, Cornelia had to run through the rain. She was soaked and unhappy but Peter declared she was still cute, leading her to complain about the clothes her grandmother was picking for her. Noting her continued depression, he asked if she was still upset about Irene, assuring his relationship with her was long over and they had fallen out of contact. She asked if he had loved her and he honestly replied no. To this, Cornelia admitted she was once deeply in love with a boy (meaning Caleb) but was over that now and only wanted to be with Peter. He felt the same and, on a whim, asked her to enter a photo booth with him to commemorate this important day in their relationship. Though she worried about looking bad, he encouraged her and they took many silly pictures together. On the last night before the Hales returned, Cornelia invited Peter to her house. Somehow escaping her grandmother, they shared a small picnic on her apartment balcony and watched the stars.[4]

Following this, Peter officially moved out of the Cook house and into an apartment with his friends. They were a sloppy group who made incredible messes and didn’t clean properly, leaving their apartment in a state of disaster.[1] Peter and Cornelia began sending handwritten letters to one another, finding it more romantic than texts or emails.[45]

Peter got a sudden call from his father (who was abroad at the time) telling him of recent revelation that had taken place at their home. This included finally telling him that Taranee was adopted and as she had just figured this out herself, was very upset. Peter was likewise upset at being lied to and went home to see his sister with his roommates promising to clean up while he was gone. Greeting Taranee in her room, he tried to talk about it but she didn’t want to and rejected his claims that they were “Big bro and little sis" which deeply hurt him, to her regret. Despite the words, he kissed her forehead and held her, declaring he would always be her brother while she cried on his shoulder. She could finally admit what she’d discovered about her life, that she was saved by a fallings star, and he joked about her having superpowers from this. She intended to find her old house and he offered to go with her, but she said she would only be taking her friends. He understood and when she asked about his new life, he admitted that his roommates were a bit sloppy. Taranee laughed at his stories but he became serious as he wished her luck on her quest. [1]

On a normal day, Peter woke up late when he wanted to do some studying for college. He complained to Richard about not waking him up and Richard defended that everyone was too tired to get up or wake the others. Stan was the only one awake but was busy studying for his exams. Peter then directed his complaints to Stan who declared that he HAD tried to wake him, but Peter rolled back over while calling him “Cornelia”. This led Richard to tease the surfer, asking when they would get to meet the “legendary” Cornelia and Peter declared she might visit them soon. At that moment, Peter noticed the mail and bragged about getting a letter from his girlfriend to which Richard called him outdated. In the letter, Cornelia promised she would come to visit “tomorrow”; however, Richard pointed out that letter was from yesterday, meaning Cornelia would come today to Peter’s panic. The other boys thought it would be fine but Peter pointed out the complete mess their apartment was in with Richard and Stan making excuses. They assured him they would have time to clean up, though the ring of the doorbell put all three of them into a panic. Thinking it was Cornelia, Peter frantically tried to straighten up but was relieved to see it was only their mail carrier with new letters. The carrier complained about the boys not having a postbox, forcing him to climb stairs, and Peter promised to get a box to make his life easier. He floundered for money for the tip but Cornelia revealed herself at that moment to pay him, admitting she had been hiding behind him that entire time to surprise Peter. She was excited to see his house but Peter made excuses (passed from Richard) that his friends were still sleeping. When this didn’t work, Peter slipped back into the room and the others suggested he just let her see the mess. Peter refused, mentioning how meticulous Cornelia was, and ordered them to clean up the mess while he took her on a long walk to buy time. They joked he should come back in a month.[45]

While on their walk, Cornelia began to get suspicious of his nervous behavior which he blamed on too much studying, inviting her to get ice cream as a distraction. She wouldn’t be swayed so he lied that Roger had the measles and was too embarrassed about the spots to be seen. Cornelia was fine with this since she was already vaccinated and Peter called the apartment to “confirm” Roger still had them (telling the others to fake it). He again tried to distract Cornelia with food but it didn’t work. When they arrived back, Peter was glad to see the others had cleaned the place very nicely. He introduced everyone but then noticed Roger walking around without any spots. Stan apologized to Peter that they had no marker to draw the spots so Roger was claiming he was cured. Peter asked Stan how they managed to clean everything and the boy declared “magic”’ but when Cornelia opened the wardrobe where the boys had stuffed all their clutter, it revealed to her the truth of their messy living. Taken off-guard, Cornelia decided it was time to leave and while Peter tried to fix the situation, she opened the wrong door and unleashed even more mess. She did eventually get through the frot door and stated her hurry was due to her being late to a show at Jensens. But she also assured Peter that she still loved him, to his relief. Back in the room, the other boys heard this and joked that all their hard work was for nothing. [45]

Peter did convince her to let him take her on his motor bike and on their arrival to Jensens, he again tried to talk about what happened. She laughed and assured him she expected a huge mess when in an all-boys' home. He asked if she would visit again and she promised she would, though would give him a week’s notice which he appreciated. Getting a call from Hay Lin, she rushed into the building while blowing Peter a kiss goodbye.[45]

News came of a double twister to hit Heatherfield. While it did come close and damaged a bit, no major destruction was caused before the winds broke up (thanks to Hay Lin). Peter had come by the house during the time and was greeted enthusiastically by Taranee while their parents watched on.[46]

Peter found out about W.I.T.C.H. having a study session in the Cook house and went by with an excuse about getting something. Cornelia opened the door but before they could talk, Will cut in by handing him one of his old socks the girls had found, ruining his excuse and effectively sending him back home so the girls could focus on studying.[47]

Peter and Cornelia agreed to hang out, meeting on the street. After greeting each other, he asked if she wanted to go shopping, get coffee, or take a walk on the beach. She told him she’d prefer he picked what they would do today and his first decision was to “greet her properly”, with the two of them kissing. [48]

Arc 8: Teach 2b W.I.T.C.H.[]

While Peter was visiting home for Sunday dinner, Lionel and Theresa sprung good news on him and Taranee: they were taking a family vacation to the beach. Taranee was excited by the prospect but Peter wasn’t, pointing out he had plans to hang with his Heatherfield friends. Lionel declared they could join and Peter pictured that becoming a complicated mess. However, Lionel informed him he'd suspected Peter’s concerns and rented more than one bungalow to let the surfers have their own space. This got Peter onboard with the plan and when Taranee also complained she wanted her friends along too, the parents revealed they had actually rented three bungalows, so everyone could come. Since W.I.T.C.H. would also be coming, Peter made plans to give Cornelia surf lessons on the beach. He also found out that Matt wanted to have Cobalt Blue play and for unknown reasons, Peter would be joining them as another guitarist. With his parents, Joel, and W.I.T.C.H., the group set out for Sleepy Bay. [49]

On their first day, Peter met Cornelia for their surfing lessons. The lesson was going well until a sudden wind storm (caused by Hay Lin) knocked the into the water. Peter rescued Cornelia from drowning but another wave pressed them together and they kissed beneath the water. Once the storm died down, they supposedly continued their lesson until Cornelia left to have lunch with her friends. Matt eventually arrived to the beach and Peter and Joel went to meet him, hanging out until W.I.T.C.H. also came to find them. That night, Peter, Joel, and Matt set up to play though Will was still clinging to Matt even as they’d gone on the stage. He had to convince her to let him go so they could start, which everyone found amusing.[49]

Taranee suddenly became busier than before (now having to run a magic school) and stay out for longer periods.[50] Her parent began to think she was lonely without Peter. This eventually proved to be true and they decided to get her two dogs, letting them live in Peter’s old bedroom.[51]

Following this trip, Joel left Cobalt Blue and drifted away from Peter and Matt. The boys made friends with Irma's new boyfriend, Stephen, and started playing music with him instead.

Arc 9: 100% W.I.T.C.H.[]

There was news of big meteor shower coming so Peter and Taranee made plans for a beach party with their friends. Peter had plans to make it a big evening, plotting with Stephen to have their music instruments while Peter brought the surf boards. Peter offered to help Taranee and Hay Lin do the grocery shopping by taking them in his car, which led to him talking with Stephen over the phone about their plans. He was caught by Taranee who didn’t approve of them blowing the party out of proportions. He defended his right to have fun but when she threatened to tell Cornelia, he agreed to take things easy. The minute she turned away, he told Stephen to continue with their plans. He helped the girls get their groceries to his car, though Hay Lin was taken aback at how messy it had become after his time living with only males.[52]

While Taranee and Hay Lin went to different stores, Peter picked up speakers and generators for the rest of his grand plans, managing to cramp all of it plus Hay Lin’s purchases into the car. He bragged about how his car, though old, has never given up on him. Hay Lin was swayed by his plans for a spectacular party, but Taranee had become fed up with the both of them. Once it was time to head to the beach, Peter discovered his tires had melted to the ground (thanks to Taranee) and they had to leave their big supplies behind. Stephen and Matt weren’t happy, blaming it on his car being so old, but the girls convinced them they didn’t need those things. Cornelia rushed up to Peter for a kiss and the group enjoyed the shooting stars even without a magnificent party.[52]

At some point, Cobalt Blue officially disbanded, though Peter and Matt remained friends. Irma and Stephen also went their separate ways while Joel reaquainted with Peter as a surfing buddy.

Arc 10: Ladies vs. W.I.T.C.H.[]

When W.I.T.C.H. decided to leave The Silver Dragon party to support a grounded Irma, they called in Peter and Matt to serve the guests instead.[53]

After much fuss, Peter finally got a new car, which he bought from a kind older man. The man was reluctant to sell it and told Peter a story of the car saving him and his wife from going over a cliff. Even so, Peter bought the car, which was named Bugg, and enjoyed the many features it had. He took Cornelia out for a ride in it, showing off the amenities though she was not very impressed. The two eventually realized they were late for Cornelia’s curfew and while she was frantic to get home, he had to stop for a gas fuel up first. He asked a bystander for change to pay and the man found the bickering couple adorable. After filling the car, Peter drove Cornelia home where they were met by a furious Elizabeth. She sent Peter home with a promise to discuss this later, as he apologized for the incident.[54]

The next morning, Peter discovered Bugg was filthy and not parked where he had left it (the car had been off saving Cornelia from Lady Crash). He went to pick up Cornelia for school and again apologized to her mother, taking responsibility for their late night. She forgave him but said it must not happen again. She also complimented his car, which he appreciated. He told Cornelia about the state Bugg was in and also told her the previous owner’s story. Cornelia “theorized” Bugg might be magical and Peter replied that she was the truly magical one.

Peter and his friends moved out of their Heatherfield apartment and went their separate ways. Peter instead moved to a house in Staxford with new roommates – John, Tom, and Barry. Peter managed to get tickets for himself and his roommates for the Grayday concert they had wanted to see. They greatly appreciated this, but also accepted that they all owned Peter a big favor. Peter was able to get a picture with GrayDay’s lead singer, Roberta Smith, which he treasured and kept in his bedside table.[2]

Peter got a call from Taranee that she wanted her and her friends to use his house for an overnight stay so they could attend a concert. For this reason, she also told him to clean the place up. He couldn’t comprehend why, having fully ingrained himself in the messy lifestyle. Peter informed his friends they had to start cleaning and all made excuses to run away, though Peter blocked the door. He reminded them the favor he was owed for the concert tickets and they seemed to agree, but while he was dividing up jobs for them all they slipped away. He swore he’d make them pay. The house did get cleaned up within the week, mostly due to the boys cramming everything into the living room closet. On the night that W.I.T.C.H. (and Cousin Esther) was to arrive, the boys went out surfing at another location to let the girls have the house for the night. While at the beach, Peter remembered he'd forgotten to throw out the garbage and called Taranee, who was already at the house. She was disgusted by this and his admittance they’d left week old pizza in the refrigerator. He promised this was the only things they had to worry about, or so he hoped. [2]

At a later point, Peter noticed Cornelia had tried to call him and when he called back, Taranee picked up the phone instead. She claimed Cornelia was unavailable but also asked about the picture they’d found in his bedside table. He explained it was Roberta and that the picture meant a lot to him, asking they be careful with it. Taranee agreed and handed the phone over to Cornelia. She asked him repeatedly if he loved her a lot and when he replied in the affirmative, she asked to call him back later. Eventually she did call back and admitted she’d destroyed his picture in a jealous rage, thinking he was in love with someone else. Despite how much the picture meant to him, Peter did forgive her for this.[2]

Despite living farther away now, Peter came by the Hale home to take Cornelia to school on her first day back. She was in a particularly bad mood and while Peter declared she was as beautiful as ever, she kept doubting her looks. When Lillian being a little too honest didn’t help, an amused Elizabeth asked Peter to “take her away”. However, Elizabeth stopped them to offer Cornelia one last hug, improving her mood and allowing Peter to take her on. [55]

Arc 11: Magical Sovereign[]

While Peter was visiting his family in Heatherfield, a giant rainstorm threatened the city though Peter and Joel enjoyed the great surfing. When the rain started to created floods, Peter and Joel volunteered to help the fire department. Along with Matt, they helped evacuate people and put-up sandbag to secure the river from overflooding. To help out even more, the boys decided to revive Cobalt Blue and put on a concert, donating the profits to relief efforts. Shortly after the concert ended, the storm finally broke and Heatherfield could go back to normal. [56]

W.I.T.C.H. were sent to a fantasy world where they would act as children with dream copies of their families. While Taranee had the appearance of a five-year-old, a dream version of Peter appeared, slightly older than her kid form. Dream-Peter was playing basketball outside when Dream-Theresa asked him to come in, though he begged to stay out a bit longer. Dream-Theresa allowed it and asked Taranee to watch out for him for her. Being trusted with this responsibility made Taranee feel more mature and she was able to grow up, freeing herself and W.I.T.C.H. from the spell. [57]

Taranee and Will had made it to the international school volleyball championship and Peter came with Matt to see their big game while holding a sign with their names on it. The score was neck and neck until a dog charged onto the court and jumped on Taranee (it wanted the necklace she was wearing) which made her miss the ball and lose the competition. Peter rushed to check on his sister, then he and Matt ran to find ice for her injury. They returned quickly but the girls were already leaving with the dog’s owner to see her invention, to their great confusion. [58]

Peter and Cornelia went on a date to the park where they played with dandelions, blowing the seeds and making wishes. Just as they were about to kiss, Cornelia declared she had to go (being summoned to Kandrakar) and the date ended early.[59] Peter remained in the Cook house for the evening, sharing dinner with his parents and sister who was in a wonderful mood (having just been promoted to Magical Sovereign).[60]

TV series[]

During the spring, Peter was playing basketball with some of his friends when the stray ball flew off. Taranee was walking by with her friends and Cornelia caught the ball before it could hit her. She was immeditely attracted to the handsome teen and flirtatiously asked if he wanted to play basketball one-on-one with her. Awkward about their age gap, Peter politely declined to Cornelia's humiliation and the other girls' amusement. Later that evening, Peter was playing ball with his friends again when a bright light drew their attention. They found Taranee and W.I.T.C.H. but also an elder teen (really Cornelia half-stuck in Guardian form). Peter was immediately enchanted to her, thinking her his own age, and asked why she seemed to familiar. Taranee and Irma quickly lied that she was Cornelia's older sister, "Lillian", which confused Peter as she was sure Cornelia's sister was younger. Even so, he made his introductions to "Lillian" and promised to see her around, though in his flustered state he hit his head on a pole and had to supported by his friends. Cornelia greatly enjoyed this new attenion.[61]

Behind the backs of her friends, Cornelia kept taking this grown form and started dating Peter under the name "Lillian". The two made a date to go ice skating and when he came to the Hale aparmtnet to pick her up, W.I.T.C.H. were there (having just realized Cornelia was tricking him). Cornelia quickly dragged him off to the ice rink, but W.I.T.C.H. followed them, as did Caleb, Elyon, and the real Lillian. At the rink, Cornelia was shoving off her ice skating prowess to Peter and he initiated a game of tag. While they played, Taranee cut in and dragged him into a game of Snake with other skaters; this worked to distract him while the others let Cornelia and an equally obliviosu Caleb meet. Cornelia, who had changed back to normal to hide her date from Caleb, went skating by. Peter approached to ask where "her sister" was which caused the real Lillian to reveal herself to them. Peter was left throughly confused. Will talked the rink's tech system into helping Corneleia, shutting down the lights and givingher a single spotlight. To Peter's view, it was "Lillian" and Cornelia trading places as they skated aroudn the rink (and Cornelia was secrely trying to keep Caleb and Peter away from each other. At one point, Peter tried to catch "Lillian" but it was Cornelia in his arms, startling him while she skated back into the darkness. Eventually the lights came back on and "Lillian" approched Peter (having decided to break up with him to get back with Caleb). Peter misunderstood and kissed her, but this seemed t make her panic and she ran off (trully, Caleb had seen her and she went to speak to him). Peter decided that "Lillian" wasn't the right girl for him and made plans to break up with her. At a later point, "Lillian" invited Peter to the rink again where she formally broke up with him. He respected how serious she was about it and pretended to be disappointed but later revealed to Taranee that he woud have ended things himself. "Lillian" just wasn't the one for him and everyone needed to find a real love.

Peter went with his family on a mountain hiking trip. While walking th trial, Taranee "disappeared" (was tele-transported by Yan Lin and Cornelia). The family thought she had gotten lost though she eventually returned to the campsite.[62]

Unknown to Peter, he was targeted by Shagon who wanted to rile up the Guardians. While Peter was playing basketball on his own one evening, Shagon used his optic beam to blast the blow up the ball over Peter's head. He was unharmed but frightned by the expereince, telling hsi family about it. Taranee realized it was Shagon and was furious that he'd target her brother, fueling her anger toward him.[63]

Trivia[]

  • Peter is the only non-Meridian involved older sibling, though in the comics we learn some other non-Meridian involved characters have older siblings.
  • Despite being several years older than Taranee, he didn't realize that she was adopted until she found out years later.[1] How he missed the fact that his mom never had a baby bump is beyond explanation; potentially his parents lost a baby, which resulted in them seeking to adopt, although this was not explicitly stated.
  • Peter has more appearances in the comics than the TV series and his relationship with Cornelia actually goes ahead and is a lot more detailed, though in the TV series he ends their relationship after only dating a short time and he thought he was dating Cornelia's "older sister" Lilian.
  • In the comics Peter is more involved with his sister than in the TV series, giving her relationship advice, being there for her after he found out Taranee was adopted and being a caring brother.[1]
  • Peter's name is derived from the Greek Petros meaning "stone".[65] Highly appropriate since his girlfriend is the Guardian of Earth.
    • More than that, the name Cornelia is the feminine form of Cornelius.[66] In the New Testaments, Cornelius is a centurion who is directed by an angel to seek a man named Peter.[67]
