Liam came from the Fast World to help Takeda bring Mariko back to life.

Plot[]

Mariko Takeda & Liam

Mariko and Liam

Liam was presumbly born in the Fast World, during the rule of The White Queen Arkaam. When Mariko Takeda accidentally arrived to his world during a science experiment, he introduced her to this new magical world and the two fell in love. However, the growing maliciousness of the White Queen was endangering the world and thus, Mariko decided to battle against her as the Black Queen.[1]

At some point (it is unknown if it was before or after Mariko became the Black Queen), Mariko's father, Foreman Takeda, tried to forcibly recall his daughter to his own dimension. But in the process, Mariko became split. This resulted in her spirit remaining in the Fast World as the Black Queen and her unconscious physical body went back to the normal dimension.[1]

Liam was greatly worried over what this separation would do to Mariko, perhaps causing her to disappear, and set up an alliance with Takeda. He would be his servant and carry out his orders for the sake of returning Mariko to normal. However, Takeda's plan was to erase magic from the world completely and to accomplish this, he believed he would have to remove all beings who possessed magic, particularly W.I.T.C.H. and the students for their new magic school.[citation needed]

Liam entered into the W.I.T.C.H. dimension through a portal Takeda created with his COLDNESS machine. However, due to his naturally high vibrations, his body had become like ice in this dimension. As instructed, he'd brought a naiade monster from his world, a creature which fed on magical energy. Takeda presented Liam with a serum to slow his body to a proper frequency and while the serum caused him pain, Liam begged to see Mariko. Takeda at first refused and the two argue about how Mariko left her home dimension, Takeda declaring she was stolen away but Liam saying she chose to stay because of the love between them. Takeda did finally let Liam see Mariko who he kept in cryogenic sleep in his office.[2]

Liam made his way to the home of Hay Lin and from there, integrated himself into her trust by claiming he wanted to help her. She took him to meet the other Guardians who were trying to figure out what creature had possessed Will. Liam, pretending to be innocent, declared it was a naiad from "his world". Though initially distrusting him, the Guardians heeded his advice that one person must step forwards to battle the creature for Will's life, that being Taranee as her "best friend". The fire Guardian succeeded in destroying it, rescuing Will, while Liam now had their trust. However, his body began to revert to ice form and he returned to Takeda who was so angry about the serpent's destruction, he spilt the serum Liam required. Still, he gloated to the younger man that he would not get rid of him for his incompetence as he wanted to make Liam suffer for what he'd done to Mariko.[3]

Hay Lin had brought Liam with her to see the new Teach 2b W.I.T.C.H. bus. He was introduced to Matt, who thought it was a bad idea bringing a person they don't properly know to see their secret magic school. Will defended the decision. He joined them in touring their new facility but when they reached the combat training room, Matt challenged him to battle which he gladly accepted. The two males proved to be well matched but when Matt pushed Liam too far, the white-haired boy overpowered him and threatened to choke him while stating he had "nothing left to lose". Only Will's pleading was enough to snap him out of it and he told Matt to be grateful to the girl that loves him before taking his leave. Later in the day, Liam returned to Takeda for more stabilizing liquid, but the scientist refused to let him see Mariko until he could find W.I.T.C.H.'s weakness.[4]

Liam attended the meeting with W.I.T.C.H. and Matt about whether to inform Sun Moore of her magical powers. He voted that they should tell her, which Will agreed with even as Matt suggested against it. He returned to Takeda for more potion and to see Mariko, desperate enough to agree with Takeda's request to bring more creatures from his own dimension. He brought in Mormers to attack the Animal Rescue Clinic, then helped out the group to track them and their captive, Sun. He rescued Taranee from the combustible creatures, explaining their nature to move so fast they set things around them on fire. Sun used her powers to sooth the creatures until they peacefully left on their own. In the evening, Liam met with Matt who thanked him for his help but also declared to still not trust him. Liam accepted this, knowing Matt was trying to protect the girl he loves while Liam was doing the same, thinking of Mariko.[5]

While Hay Lin was stressed about her parents arguing, she insisted Liam find a new place to live. She asked Will who convinced her mother to let the boy stay in the Vandom-Collins guestroom. While Will was distracted setting up the room, Liam wandered into baby William's room and approached his crib, though Will's quick return distracted him. Susan admitted to Will she didn't really trust Liam while Matt, watching this through the window, also found his behavior suspicious. Later, Liam left the house through the window and ventured to Takeshita Inc. There, he reported to Takeda about seeing Will's brother and the ease with which he could steal him. But Takeda called him careless as Matt had followed him to their hideout, though the security robots easily caught him in ice.[6]

Liam was horrified that Takeda wanted him to remove William, not okay with the idea of harming a child even if he was magical. Liam remained fully against the idea until being threatened with deportation back to the Fast World. He took one last look at Mariko and, with a limited time until his body vibrated out of the dimension, left to get William. Before going to Will's house, he stopped to see Hay Lin, his body now vibrating at super speed. He apologized to the air Guardian for taking advantage of her trust and mentioned the horrible thing he was about to do but then zipped out her window before she could stop him. He went to the Vandom-Collins house, using his powers to knock out Susan, and approached William. The baby greeted him happily, taking Liam off-guard, but he still ran away with the child. Liam took William to Takeda who then ordered he be taken through the portal into the Fast World, refusing to give Liam more serum unless he did so. Liam was disgusted, mentioning how he tried to be sympathetic to the man's sorrow over his daughter but now saw him as inhuman. Nonetheless, he brought William across the divide and through the harsh trip, the infant's magical powers kept him safe. Overcome with regret, Liam decided he could no longer do as Takeda asked, giving his apologies to Mariko, then left William in the woods in the hope that he could protect himself with his magic. [7]

Liam made his way to the White City where he took on the robes of one of the White Queen's council members. While walking through the city, he was spotted by W.I.T.C.H. - who came to the dimension looking for William - and fled from them. Later, he sat in on the queen's war council, still hiding his identity from W.I.T.C.H. while hearing the White Queen lie to them about the war and that the Black Queen had Will's brother.[1]

He was absent for the war of the Queens where Mariko's severed spirit was revealed and arrested with her army. At some point, he managed to steal the White Queen's special seal, not knowing it was part of her plan.[1]

Later, after W.I.T.C.H. couldn't find William and suspected they'd been used, he finally revealed himself to them. It was a cold reunion but he convinced them to trust him once more. The group went to the floating prison where the Black Queen and her army were being held, using the White Queen's seal to open the doors and find Mariko's cell. He freed Mariko and the two lovers embraced. Mariko proved that she did have William as well as her own sister, Shinobu, hidden within her armor for their protection. The group readied to leave but the White Queen arrived, revealing it was all her trap and using her luminous butterfly jar to freeze everyone in place. She then threw her Sword of Exile at Mariko, intent on destroying her enemy once and for all. Liam used all his strength to get in front of the blade and as it hit him, he shattered into pieces, forever lost while protecting his true love.[1]

Though Liam disappeared, his sacrifice bought enough time for the others to escape[1] and return to Earth. Mariko's spirit returned to her body and her life was saved, as he had always wished for. They would later battle White Queen one last time before defeating her.[8]

Powers and abilities[]

Liam displays the ability to transfer his natural vibration, if he intends to, by touching his target. This was seen when he kidnapped William from Susan Vandom, when the touch caused her to feel shock and eventually became unconscious.[7]
