I is for Illusion is the ninth episode of season 2, and the thirty-fifth episode overall of the TV series.

Plot[]

The girls went on a vacation with Irma's family, and the girls had a bit of a rough time there, but they managed to cope with it, until Nerissa showed up and began spreading distrust amongst them. Nerissa successfully framed Will as applying her power of quintessence into inanimate objects.

Later on, one of the objects moved outside their residence and the gang started arguing. Suddenly, "The Oracle" appeared claiming to want to reclaim their powers because of distrust and absence of harmony and demanding that Will hand over the Heart of Kandrakar.

Fortunately, Hay Lin noticed that the Oracle had a different shadow: it's "The Old Hag"! This prompted the Guardians to transform and a battle ensued with Caleb and Blunk from Meridian to help out, and victory went to the Guardians as they defeated the inanimate objects brought to life and restored their bond as friends and their group harmony.

In the B-story, Caleb and Blunk were fighting with the other Knights of Vengeance.

Release notes[]

  • All known DVD versions of this episode are noticeably overexposed, with significantly brighter video throughout than in any other episode. This is particularly apparent in the opening sequence and closing credits, perhaps because they can be compared directly.

Comics connections[]

  • This episode bears similarities to issue 16 of the comics, with the W.I.T.C.H. girls going on vacation and having it ruined by Nerissa's evil acts.
  • The part where Will almost gave Nerissa (disguised as the Oracle) the Heart of Kandrakar is similar to an event that occurred in issue 20, where Will actually did give Nerissa (disguised as Matt) the Heart of Kandrakar.

Behind the scenes[]

Trivia[]

  • Every second-season episode has a clear focus on one of the five main characters. This episode is one of 5 in the season to focus on Irma Lair.
  • Irma continued to stay at the same house on vacation in the following episode, as Blunk folded to her there to help defeat Phobos.
  • All of the girls seemed annoyed and surprised that Hay Lin snores in her sleep. As this is far from their first sleepover in the series, they should have already known this, unless it is a recent development.
  • In the surfing montage, an instrumental track can be heard which sounds a lot like the song "Romp Bomp A Stomp" by The Wiggles. This is likely because The Wiggles had a contract with the show's co-producer and distributor, Disney, at the time.
  • Cornelia said she couldn't swim in The Underwater Mines, but swam just fine while they were playing in the water. It's possible she since learned how in the time between this episode and the former.
